Operations Vice President of Operations - Digital Agency at Urban Insight

Vice President of Operations leads delivery organization and internal operations for a digital agency, managing project execution, resource allocation, and strategic business execution.

Exec Remote Posted 4 days ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

This role is for someone who has led delivery or operations inside a digital agency or studio that builds websites, web apps, or custom software for clients. That experience is the core requirement. Who We Are

Urban Insight is a leading digital agency creating innovative websites and web applications for organizations that make a difference. We specialize in solving complex problems through website strategy, design and development using open source content management systems (primarily, Drupal and WordPress, and headless architectures). Our clients include some of the most well known museums, nonprofits, universities, cities and more.

Urban Insight has been in business for 25+ years and continues to expand each year. We thrive on having a professionally rewarding environment where team members are encouraged to grow.

Opportunity

The Vice President of Operations (remote, U.S. based position) reports directly to the CEO and is the company’s number two. As the VP of Ops you will have two core responsibilities: (1) be the operational catalyst and strategic navigator of our organization and (2) lead the delivery organization as our core revenue engine.

In this pivotal role, you will be a thought partner to the CEO and executive team in driving the company forward. You will lead the efficient execution of our business strategies, ensuring the seamless integration of our operations, and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Revenue functions sit within your view from day one, but they are a secondary priority. Your first mandate is to strengthen delivery and internal operations. As those mature, you will take on a larger operational role across the revenue functions.

This role is ideal for a motivated, energetic leader with a high sense of urgency who wants to help take an organization to the next level.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery Leadership: Own the delivery organization as a revenue-generating engine: accountable for project execution quality, on-time and on-budget performance, resource allocation, and margin. Define delivery standards, own capacity planning against project demand, and ensure the PM function is structured and resourced to lead complex engagements end to end.
  • Business Cadence & Strategic Execution: Own and operate the company’s planning and execution system (EOS) annual goal-setting, quarterly rock planning, and weekly leadership rhythms. Translate strategic direction into clear execution plans, drive the leadership team to results, and hold leaders accountable to their commitments. Serve as a thought partner to the CEO on strategy and the operational levers that enable sustainable revenue growth.
  • Internal Operations: Develop and scale internal processes and systems across the business (tooling, workflow, and admin), ensuring the organization runs efficiently and can support continued growth.
  • Talent & Culture: Own recruiting, onboarding, and performance management to consistently hire and retain A players at every level. Lead employee engagement and culture as an ongoing operational function. Own the employee experience from hire to departure, including the HR processes that support it.
  • Operations & Business Metrics: Own the company’s operational performance metrics including utilization, project margin, revenue mix, pipeline health, and capacity. Build visibility into the right agency levers, interpret trends, and drive data-informed decisions that optimize how the business performs with its current resources.
  • Leadership & Management: Coach and develop the next layer of leaders into effective department owners. Close the gap between strategy and execution by ensuring leaders have clear plans, the right support structure, and real accountability for results.
  • Revenue Functions: As a secondary priority to delivery, coach and manage sales, business development, marketing and estimating functions to drive profitable new business via RFPs and direct sales, and harmonious and consistent handoff from sales to delivery.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of operations and leadership experience, including time operating as a senior leader reporting to a COO or CEO.
  • At least half of those years in a digital agency or studio that builds websites, web apps, or custom software for clients (such as a web or digital design agency, software consultancy, or product studio), with 20 to 150 employees. Experience with WordPress and/or Drupal projects is a plus.
  • Direct experience leading the delivery of complex website and web application projects, including client interactions and relationships.
  • Demonstrated success building and running internal and people operations that supported profitable growth.
  • Proven leadership of a multi-team organization, with accountability for managing managers (not only individual contributors).
  • Exposure to revenue functions in an agency context.

Success Metrics

In the first 90 days:

  • Develop gap analysis of key areas for improvement and investment for the Company, with a focus on delivery.
  • Deliver a one-year project plan with a clearly prioritized set of initiatives to improve and enhance key functional areas that you lead.
  • Ownership of short-term and long-term forecasting.

In the first year:

  • Delivery: Project margin improved by 3 to 5 percent year over year. On-time and on-budget delivery measured consistently and trending up.
  • Operations: Utilization, capacity, and pipeline health measured and reported on a regular cadence, with clear targets in place.
  • Client operations: Gross and net client and revenue retention consistently measured and held at 90 to 95 percent. A growing roster of reference-able clients and strong client satisfaction scores.
  • People and culture: Top performers engaged and retained, with employee retention consistently measured and maintained.
  • Leadership: Development plans created for each direct report, with accountability for completion.
  • Revenue Functions (as the secondary mandate activates): A consistent, documented sales-to-delivery handoff, a clear business development process and operations, and timely, high-quality completion of estimates and proposals.

Location & Availability

  • This position is available for fully remote or hybrid work. Our office is located in sunny Los Angeles, CA.
  • We ask for core overlap from 9am to 3pm Pacific so the leadership team can collaborate in real time; the balance of the day is flexible across U.S. time zones.

Compensation

  • Total annual compensation $160,000-200,000 (salary + target bonus [based on company and personal performance])
  • Paid time off (20 days off)
  • Holiday time off (10 days per year).
  • Health, Dental and Vision insurance (95% employer-paid for you).
  • Company-sponsored 401(k) plan with employer match (after 90 days).

What this role involves

About DonorsChoose

DonorsChoose is an education nonprofit ensuring every US public school student has the classroom resources they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

Founded by a teacher in 2000, DonorsChoose connects educators with a nationwide community of supporters who believe investing in students today will transform tomorrow. Educators request the materials they know their students need, and donors can choose the classroom, community, or cause they want to support. Since our founding, donors have supported 90% of US public schools. Every request is vetted, resources are delivered to classrooms, and donors can see the impact of their support through transparent reporting and updates from students and teachers. Raising $1.9 billion for classrooms, DonorsChoose has earned top ratings from Charity Navigator, GuideStar, and CharityWatch for its transparency, trust, and impact. Our dedicated team works from across the United States to turn resources into opportunities for students and teachers.

By connecting donor generosity with teacher needs, Marketing strengthens the DonorsChoose Marketplace and advances the organization’s mission of expanding educational opportunity for students in every community.

This executive leader defines the organization’s Marketplace growth strategy, bringing together audience insight, product partnership, marketing strategy, and data-informed decision making to strengthen both sides of the Marketplace, deepen donor engagement, and expand equitable access to classroom resources for teachers and students.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, this role serves as Marketing’s primary strategic partner to Product, shaping Marketplace investment priorities and ensuring product strategy is informed by donor needs, teacher insights, market opportunities, and measurable business outcomes. As a key member of the Marketing leadership team, this role partners closely with leaders across Product, Development, Analytics, Finance, and Executive Leadership to align priorities, make strategic tradeoff decisions, and ensure Marketplace investments deliver meaningful results for both teachers and donors.

Success in this role requires balancing immediate fundraising opportunities with the long-term health of the Marketplace, building strong cross-functional partnerships, and fostering a culture of experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement. Success is measured not only by Marketplace growth, but by how effectively that growth expands educational opportunity for teachers and students across the country.

  • Establish the vision, priorities, and operating strategy for Marketplace Growth.
  • Identify the highest-value opportunities across Product, Marketing, and Fundraising to improve Marketplace performance and donor outcomes.
  • Translate teacher and donor behavior, market trends, research, and organizational priorities into actionable growth strategies.
  • Partner with the Chief Marketing Officer and cross-functional leaders to establish Marketplace investment priorities, annual objectives, and success metrics.
  • Influence enterprise decision-making by aligning Marketplace strategy across Product, Marketing, Development, Finance, Analytics, and Executive Leadership.

Drive Marketplace Growth & Performance

  • Develop strategies that increase donor acquisition, engagement, retention, recurring giving, reactivation, upgrades, and lifetime value.
  • Champion a culture of experimentation, measurement, and continuous optimization.
  • Partner with Analytics to establish performance metrics, evaluate results, and identify new growth opportunities.
  • Balance immediate fundraising opportunities with long-term health of the Marketplace, strengthening outcomes for both donors and teachers.
  • Define the organization’s Marketplace growth strategy and translate it into clear priorities for functional leaders, ensuring teams are aligned around shared goals while empowering them to own execution.

Partner with Product & Drive Go-to-Market

  • Ensure new product capabilities create measurable Marketplace value.
  • Serve as Marketing primary strategic partner to Product throughout product planning and roadmap development.
  • Represent the voice of multiple audiences including teachers, donors, partners, vendors when evaluating new product opportunities for the multi-sided marketplace..
  • Identify Marketplace opportunities that influence product investment priorities.
  • Partner with Product to evaluate new capabilities, define success measures, and assess business impact.
  • Ensure new features and enhancements are successfully positioned, launched, adopted, and measured.

Lead the Marketplace Growth Organization

  • Build a high-performing team capable of delivering sustained Marketplace growth.
  • Lead the leaders responsible for Digital Growth & Marketing, Product Marketing, and Mid-Level Giving.
  • Align teams around shared Marketplace objectives and organizational priorities.
  • Develop high-performing managers through coaching, clear expectations, and thoughtful prioritization.
  • Foster a collaborative, data-informed culture that encourages experimentation, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Build organizational capability that enables the Marketplace Growth function to scale alongside the organization.

Qualifications

  • Have 10+ years of related work experience in growth, lifecycle marketing, product marketing, digital marketing, Marketplace strategy, or revenue growth in a high-growth technology company, digital Marketplace, or mission-driven organization.
  • Understand how to grow multi-sided marketplaces by balancing customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and lifetime value.

  • Enjoys using data, experimentation, and customer insights to solve complex business challenges.
  • Have successfully led managers and built high-performing, cross-functional teams.
  • Are comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels, moving seamlessly between long-term vision and execution.

Vice Presidents are enterprise leaders responsible for defining strategy, leading significant organizational functions, and driving outcomes that advance DonorsChoose’s long-term mission and organizational priorities. They establish a clear vision for their function, build and develop high-performing leaders and teams, and influence decisions across the organization through strong executive partnership, strategic judgment, and cross-functional leadership.

About the Marketing Team

The Marketing team helps more people discover, support, and return to DonorsChoose to ensure teachers across the country can access the resources their students need. By connecting donor generosity with teacher needs, Marketing strengthens the DonorsChoose Marketplace and advances the organization’s mission of expanding educational opportunity for students in every community.

Working closely with Product, Development, Analytics, and Executive Leadership, Marketing connects donor needs with organizational priorities to strengthen the DonorsChoose Marketplace and expand opportunities for teachers and classrooms nationwide.

About the Role

The Vice President, Marketplace Growth is responsible for the performance, health, and long-term evolution of the DonorsChoose Marketplace—the ecosystem that connects teachers seeking classroom resources with donors who want to support them.

While Product defines what gets built and how it works, the Vice President, Marketplace Growth defines where the organization should invest to accelerate Marketplace growth and maximize long-term impact.

The Vice President leads an integrated Marketplace Growth organization—including Digital Growth & Marketing, Product Marketing, and Mid-Level Giving—aligning these functions around a shared growth strategy that attracts new donors, deepens engagement, increases donor lifetime value, and strengthens the overall health of the Marketplace.

  • Translate teacher and donor behavior, market trends, research, and organizational priorities into actionable growth strategies.
  • Partner with the Chief Marketing Officer and cross-functional leaders to establish Marketplace investment priorities, annual objectives, and success metrics.
  • Influence enterprise decision-making by aligning Marketplace strategy across Product, Marketing, Development, Finance, Analytics, and Executive Leadership.

Drive Marketplace Growth & Performance

  • Lead sustainable Marketplace growth through customer insight, experimentation, and data-informed decision making.

  • Have significant experience partnering closely with Product organizations to influence roadmaps, launch new capabilities, and improve customer experiences.
  • Have successfully balanced customer experience, product strategy, and business performance to drive sustainable growth.
  • Enjoys using data, experimentation, and customer insights to solve complex business challenges.
  • Have successfully led managers and built high-performing, cross-functional teams.
  • Are comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels, moving seamlessly between long-term vision and execution.
  • Build trust through collaboration, curiosity, and sound judgment while influencing without relying solely on formal authority.

Level Expectations

Vice Presidents are enterprise leaders responsible for defining strategy, leading significant organizational functions, and driving outcomes that advance DonorsChoose’s long-term mission and organizational priorities. What Makes Cloudflare Special?

We’re not just a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company. We’re a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company with a soul. Fundamental to our mission to help build a better Internet is protecting the free and open Internet.

Project Galileo: Since 2014, we've equipped more than 2,400 journalism and civil society organizations in 111 countries with powerful tools to defend themselves against attacks that would otherwise censor their work, technology already used by Cloudflare’s enterprise customers--at no cost.

Athenian Project: In 2017, we created the Athenian Project to ensure that state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, so that their constituents have access to election information and voter registration. Since the project, we've provided services to more than 425 local government election websites in 33 states.

1.1.1.1: We released 1.1.1.1 to help fix the foundation of the Internet by building a faster, more secure and privacy-centric public DNS resolver. This is available publicly for everyone to use - it is the first consumer-focused service Cloudflare has ever released. Here’s the deal - we don’t store client IP addresses never, ever. We will continue to abide by our privacy commitment and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.

Sound like something you’d like to be a part of? We’d love to hear from you!

What this role involves

Location: Remote

Remote | Full-time

Compensation: $130K - $200K

Our client is a fast-growing financial technology company building high-performance infrastructure for cross-border payments and global USD accounts. Backed by premier venture capital firms, the organization enables faster, lower-cost, and more reliable financial services infrastructure for embedded finance platforms, fintechs, and financial institutions operating in emerging and high-growth global markets.

To support their next stage of global scale, our client is seeking an experienced and vision-driven Vice President of Marketing.

Reporting directly to executive leadership, the VP of Marketing will take full ownership of the marketing function. This executive leader will set the overall vision and multi-year strategy, align marketing initiatives with corporate priorities, and act as the executive voice for brand narrative, demand generation, and go-to-market (GTM) strategy. Rather than leaning solely on traditional hiring, the ideal candidate will design, build, and scale an AI-native marketing function, driving both product-led growth (PLG) and enterprise inbound pipeline for an API-first financial infrastructure product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Marketing Strategy & Vision: Define the multi-year global marketing strategy and roadmap, aligning brand, demand generation, and GTM investments with overarching company objectives.

  • Build an AI-Native Marketing Function: Design, deploy, and scale modern AI agents, automated workflows, and systems to execute high-impact marketing operations efficiently as the company grows.

  • Pipeline & Demand Generation Ownership: Take end-to-end executive accountability for the inbound engine—from traffic generation, conversion, and lead qualification through to sales handoff—to hit key pipeline targets.

  • Product-Led Growth (PLG): Build and optimize self-serve and usage-driven growth motions for API-first financial products to complement top-down enterprise sales initiatives.

  • Brand Positioning & Category Leadership: Establish a category-defining brand strategy and compelling technical narrative that resonates with developers, engineering leaders, and key business decision-makers.

  • Multi-Channel Strategy: Lead direction and execution across digital performance, technical content, and industry events, ensuring quantitative rigor across all channels.

  • Executive & Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with Sales and Product leadership to align messaging, produce sales enablement assets, and support major product launches.

  • Performance Measurement & Reporting: Define executive- and board-level KPIs, establishing reporting frameworks that map marketing investments directly to pipeline generation and revenue outcomes.

  • Leadership Experience: 8+ years of progressive marketing leadership experience, including proven experience building and directing teams or functions within B2B technology, fintech, or payments.

  • Domain Expertise: Strong background marketing in stablecoins, banking-as-a-service (BaaS), cross-border payments, or emerging financial infrastructure.

  • Scaling & AI-Driven Operations: Track record of building a marketing engine from an early stage into a mature, high-performing function, including hands-on experience utilizing modern, AI-native frameworks and operational tools.

  • Technical Audience & PLG Fluency: Proven success marketing API-first or developer-facing products, with deep experience in product-led growth strategies and technical positioning.

  • Executive GTM Accountability: Demonstrated experience presenting to executive teams and boards, with direct accountability for lead generation targets, pipeline, and revenue conversion.

  • Inbound & Demand Generation Excellence: Strong expertise in designing, measuring, and optimizing multi-channel inbound engines.

  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Highly autonomous and adaptable leader capable of setting strategy and creating infrastructure in fast-moving, high-ambiguity environments.

  • Competitive executive base salary with performance-aligned incentives.

  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage.

  • Generous equity package in a high-growth, venture-backed enterprise.

  • Flexible/remote work arrangement.

  • Professional development allowance and career growth opportunities within an expanding international fintech environment.

Due to the high volume of applications we anticipate, we regret that we are unable to provide individual feedback to all candidates. If you do not hear back from us within 4 weeks of your application, please assume that you have not been successful on this occasion. We genuinely appreciate your interest and wish you the best in your job search.
